Step by Step..... exploring how insights from an injury translate into everyday life lessons. On the mat, as in everyday life, we tend to find our own unique flow. Often, when that flow becomes routine, we barely have to think about it at all. It is only when this flow becomes unexpectedly interrupted that we are forced to look at things in a new light. Lesson One: Awareness.....An injury unapologetically forces you to be present with your body. You become acutely attuned to what your body can handle and what it is not ready for so you navigate you healing journey with safe attentiveness. Lesson Two: Patience.....It is in our nature to want to rush, however the injury reminds you that the journey is what matters and you learn to appreciate small victories with the recovery. Lesson Three: Humility...........The ego wants to push and hustle , the struggle between what I 'used to" be able to do compared to what You "can do" now is a daily battle. You may need to return to the stance of a new student and move thru basic postures. Lesson Four: Gratitude.....each day you will be grateful for the small steps forwards no matter how microscopic. The humans body's ability to heal is nothing short of astonishing. These lessons are immense gifts that haul us back to the present moment. extract from article by Kelly Fielding in Australian Yoga Journal
