Having trouble with Pelvic Tilt in chair pose (Utkatasana) ?

Several things to consider: 1. Can you do DFD with assistance (instructors hand assisting) preventing pelvic tilt? 2. Can you do DFD with bent knees? 3. Can you do proper cat/dog tucks when in table top position (e.g can you get to puppy pose)? 4. do you have a really flat back? 5. do you run / walk a lot (or wear high heels a lot)? how's your ankle mobility too.
More often than not, muscles are not "tight" . It can be about poor control of movement pattern (so the brain hasn't learned it), or it could be the nervous system just is not ready for it (e.g. it senses danger), which could mean it just needs time to learn it assisted (and with mirror). It might be a good time to get some one-on-one private lesson so you can get really hands on adjustment. (article by ross ashcroft)
You can also practice the chair pose with a chair behind you and in front of a mirror to check your form. sit down into chair leading with your tailbone, chest lifted, knees hip width apart and aligned over ankles.
